Granola Hack

I have been making a batch of my Granola recipe every time we run out which is weekly at the moment.  I have been experimenting with possible replacements for Maple syrup as with the rising cost of food and the weak NZ dollar, Maple syrup is a bit pricey at the moment.

I have used Apple Sauce before which works well but the granola doesn’t clump together as much.  I have discovered that jam or jelly works really well and is a great way to use up any half jars you might have lurking in the fridge.  I just sub 1/2 cup jam for the maple syrup and make the recipe up as normal.  I have found that smooth jam or jelly works the best and the flavour of the granola differs based on the flavour of jam/jelly you use.  The jam is nice and sticky and helps the granola form nice clumps.  It is also much cheaper at $4 or $5 a jar.
