Shopping the stash

I haven’t done any sewing for a while but I made a few things last year using fabric I already had in my stash. I have been trying to reduce the amount of fabric I have and not buy anymore as I have more than enough to make an entire new wardrobe! The first piece I used from my stash has been there for a very long time and has moved house with me 5 times. I brought this piece of Batik fabric at Kuala Lumpur airport on my way home from London when I moved back to NZ in 1998. I had never found the right pattern to make with it until recently. It has 2 different patterns in the fabric.

I decided to make a Wicksten Shift top out of this fabric and used one part of the pattern for the front and the other part for the back.

It turned out brilliantly, I love how the 2 different patterns look on the top.

I even found the perfect label for this one!

I also made another Wicksten Shift top from a piece of duvet. My aunt gave me a duvet that was a super king size, much too big for our queen size bed so I cut it down to size and had a leftover piece big enough to make another top.

And last but not least, I made a Hubbading Charlie dress from some linen I brought when we went to Japan in 2024. I absolutely love this dress, it is so comfy and perfect for a hot summers day and the linen is so soft.

Three pieces of fabric used up, many more to go!
